Genesis 19 Second Major destruction from Hand of Almighty
God doesn’t fool around. This is now the second time that God has to have extreme punishment toward a couple of cities that are in prosperous agricultural lands. We know this because Abraham gave Lot the choice of property a couple of years before. Lot took the better property.
When a nation such as ours: US, Canada, Western Nations who have prosperity and turn their backs on God; what happens? We are so fortunate. We are only dwelling in peace and safety due to God almighty. When we think we are prosperous by our own hands, look out
Here the story of Lot and Angels visiting him. You see his morals are tested when the men of the town want sex with men, not his daughters, Lot gets caught up with himself. The angels protect him. Even when he goes to warn his sons-in-law of impending horrific disaster do they disregard him and perish with the city. Even his wife who is told, go, do not look back. She looks back and turns into a pillar of salt
You remember the requirement at end of chapter 19? If ten righteous people were in the city it would have been spared. Would you believe 3, maybe only one, Lot but his daughters went with him. Would we be in that number or would we be worried about our property, toys, vehicles, things that give us status?
Genesis 20 Abraham moves on
Second time around and later we’ll see the promised son to come: Isaac do the same thing after he’s married and moving around. Meanwhile this time Abimelech is the king, but seems to be a God seeker. God speaks to him in more graphic religious language and warning. Abimelech asks the same questions. Abraham offers similar answer, but really Sarah his wife is his step-sister. Is this incest? We’d call it that today, in lieu of medical harm coming to children. God protects those who will be born via this system, early in the scriptures.
Genesis 21 The Promised Son
In the middle of the story of dealing with Abimelech, Isaac is born. The only “qualified” son through barren Sarah after God opens her womb. God promised a year before that this elderly couple: Sarah and Abraham at 89 and 99 would conceive and give birth on their 90th and 100th birthdays respectively. Miracle child? It happens often in the Bible.
Isaac eventually leads to the Davidic line which we’ll begin to investigate about mid-March on our schedule if my estimations are correct
After the miracle birth, Abimelech and Abraham make a covenant to be at peace with one another.
